Zyxel NBG6716 Compared with R6250 and Dlink 868L

New NBG6716 is the fastest wireless ac routers offered by Zyxel. How is it compared with other wireless ac routers?

Overview

Zyxel is a well known name in networking, particularly in businesses with their business class security networking devices even though it also offers various models of home networking products. Unlike Netgear and Asus and some other vendors, home products by Zyxel are not so popular even though they have various models of high performance product including NBG6716. This is the latest introduction of Zyxel lines of home router products based on wireless ac technology.

How it performs

The model is designed like its predecessor NBG5715 wireless N900 router, but this AC1750 doesn’t come with external antennas. Zyxel doesn’t engineer this model to support native VPN like its NBG5715 model which supports up to 5 IPSec VPN tunnels, probably it is mainly designed for home users that rarely use the advanced configuration of VPN tunneling.

High speed

Zyxel NBG6716 is introduced with the latest 5G wifi technology like those Netgear 6300 and Dlink 868L i.e. wireless ac1750 with maximum data rate throughput up to 1750Mbps total bandwidth with high power internal antenna amplifier for longer distance coverage. I do not find any information if the technology used is beamforming like Netgear and D-link wireless ac routers. Beamforming is widely used by high end home routers with wireless ac technology for solid and focus connection to wifi clients.

Like its competitor, mostly router products that fall into high end router category are embedded with gigabit-port switch for LAN ports as well as WAN port. With Gigabit WAN port allows you to opt DOCSIS 3 cable modem (if you subscribe Cable broadband services) that mostly come with gigabit Ethernet port such as Surfboard SB6121 or SB6141 DOCSIS 3 cable modem for optimum data throughput between router and modem.

USB ports

Compared with Netgear R6250 and Dlink 868L, NBG6716 comes with two USB 2.0 ports. However, the other two routers come with the fastest USB 3.0 port – 10 x faster than USB 2.0 port, ideal connection to high speed USB 3.0 disk storage for boosting the rate throughput.

QoS

Zyxel 6716 is coupled with Smart QoS – streamboost adaptive routing technology that manages and classifies the traffic intelligently according to cloud-based database to dynamically provide each of the application the bandwidth and speed it is required to perform in its best. Zyxel develops its patent-pending algorithm for this Smart QoS technology to automatically manage the users bandwidth intelligently without users interventions, all the clients have their own slice of pie proportionally for best bandwidth utilization for each of the application.

Multiple SSIDs

Dlink 886L and Netgear r6250 support guest network, but Zyxel 6716 supports multiple SSIDs you can create to meet your needs. All the networks have their own security settings; however they can access the same share printer and internet. You can create particular SSID for VoIP – voice application, certain SSID for workers, and other Guest network for guests.

Cloud feature

Zyxel NBG6716 is not equipped with the cloud feature like D-link 868L. D-link has varieties of cloud features including USB Shareport to let you create free private cloud. You can attach any flash disk with multimedia files that can be accessed by all of your mobile devices anywhere. Moreover, you also have option to download MyDlink Lite app to let you monitor your home camera anywhere, never miss to monitor what happened in your home. All can be done from the palm of your hand, anywhere anytime you can access the internet with your smart-phone, iPad or Android mobile devices.

In my opinion, the existence of two USB ports, multiple SSIDs and the Smart Streamboost QoS are those features that can be count on among other two. However, with these plus features you can consider Asus RT-AC66U with the same wireless ac1750 technology, two USB 2.0 ports, and the same numbers of SSIDs (6x) you can create and AiCloud features.

Now you can justice which one is best to meet your business needs.
