Wirelesssys tm120 is the new startup product released recently which is the 4g lte mesh wifi router plus its satellite Wirelessys mr120 to extend the coverage. How good is it compared with Orbi Lbr20?
Wirelessys TM120
Orbi Lbr20 is the new product released by Netgear which is mesh wifi router with built-in 4g lte modem and is designed with ac2200 network segment. It is very helpful for those who live in rural areas that are not covered by wired internet network services such as cable or fiber network. This Orbi Lbr20 is quite expensive, around $ 299.99, not including the Orbi satellite when you need to extend the coverage. For that Wirelessys offers similar solution – Wirelessys Tm120 with more economical price.

What this product does
TM120 is a mesh wifi router with built-in 4g lte modem that works in ac1200 network segment, narrower bandwidth than lbr20 that works in ac2200.
For the needs of internet tasks such as social media, internet browsing, streaming and online gaming with several mobile devices at home is sufficient. However, if your wifi network is mostly used for online games, of course you need to consider a wireless gaming router such as the Netgear xr500 or Netgear xr700.
AC1200 MU-MIMO
Wirelessys Tm120 is a simultaneous dual band ac1200 4g lte mesh wifi router with 2×2 MU-MIMO delivers wifi speeds of up to 867Mbps @5GHz plus up to 300Mbps @2.4GHz. If there are several mobile devices in your home that support mu-mimo with 150Mbps speed for example, the router will send 2 data streams at once to your two mobile devices so that your wifi network becomes very efficient.
Compared with Orbi lbr20 that is designed with ac2100 simultaneous tri band (400Mbps @2.4GHz plus 866Mbps @5GHz plus 866Mbps @5GHz) with one radio band @5GHz band is used for dedicated backhaul.
Failover
Like Orbi Lbr20, Wirelessys tm120 comes with 1x Gigabit WAN port you may connect to wired internet services such as cable or fiber modem in addition of built-in 4g lte cable modem. The good thing is that when you are back in the city where wired internet service provider is available, your 4g lte mesh wifi router still can work by connecting the modem to the WAN port, and when it comes that the wired internet services is disconnected due to disruptions, the system will failover to 4g lte services.
Ethernet backhaul
Wirelessys does not provide a wifi backhaul option like the mesh wifi system models in general including Netgear Orbi Lbr20 4g lte mesh wifi system. Of course, there are advantages to using a wired Ethernet backhaul because the wired connection is reliable, stable without any connection disturbances except for physical broken cables. And this means that both radio bands are used for connected devices, no longer share bandwidth with backhaul like mesh wifi ac1200 systems in general.
