What this product does

In home wifi network you might require only a cable modem and a wireless router. or today you may prefer the emerging wireless mesh router such as Asus Lyra Trio AC1200 and Linksys Velop.

You may add one of popular DOCSIS 3 cable modem for broadband internet such as TP-link TC-7620 or Arris Surfboard SB6183 / SB6190 or new DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem such as Arris Surfboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem. And for the wifi router you may select one of most popular two band wireless routers such as Nighthawk X4S or D-link 885. And when there is still some dead zones you can extend the network by adding one of most popular range extenders such as Netgear EX7300 AC200 range extender.

Business AP

Should need to build a large scale wireless network to support your businesses you should think about future expansion, how much users would connect to the network and should think about future expansion.

Upgrade your internet bandwidth and add some business wireless access point products that can grow as much as possible, easy to deploy, easy to scale up and make sure you can manage them centrally even across multiple sites. Ubiquiti UAP-PRO and new version UAP-AC-PRO can do all the tasks. We’ll use Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO instead of legacy UAP-PRO and compare later Ubiquiti vs TP-link EAP225 v3.

Central wifi management

Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO is one of business class wireless access point that can scale up for thousands easily and can be managed centrally using the powerful enterprise UniFi® wireless controller software.

The good thing with this software for enterprise network is that you can add the software in the cloud and manage multiple sites via the cloud for your wifi deployment spread across multiple sites globally. Similar concept with the Open mesh cloud base A62 access point.

Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO (~$197)

Before comparing Ubiquiti vs TP-link let’s see the highlights of this Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO or UAP-AC-PRO-US which is the wireless AC version of legacy UAP-PRO.

Main features

  • Sleek design with Ceiling or wall mount model
  • Simultaneous dual band 3×3 MIMO wireless 802.11ac AC1750
  • Wifi speeds up to 1300Mbps @5GHz band and 450Mbps @2.4GHz band
  • High gain 3dBi 3×3 MIMO with Omni type internal antennas
  • 2x Gigabit Ethernet ports with POE support
  • Multi SSIDs, 4x SSIDs per band
  • Scalable wifi management by using free Unifi controller software

Ubiquiti also offers Ubiquiti UAP-AC-HD which is based on wireless AC2200 with speeds up to 1700Mbps @5GHZ band with ac/n clients and up to 450Mbps @2.4GHz band with b/g/n clients.

Ubiquiti Vs TP-link

What is the competing products for this Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO? You can find few business class wireless access point models in the market and one of them is TP-link EAP225 v3 which is based on wave 2 wireless technology and the good thing is that this product is much cheaper than Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO.

TP-link Eap225 v3 wireless ac1350 AP (~$70)

For head to head comparison, have a look at the following spec comparison table between Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO and TP-link EAP225 v3.

Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO is based on standard AC1750 wave 1 technology, while TP-link eap225 v3 which is the newest version of first generation eap225 based on wave 2 wireless technology. wave 2 wifi technology is ready for gigabit wireless speed and is MU-MIMO ready.

MU-MIMO provides simultaneous data throughput to multiple clients (with MU-MIMO ready) to reduce network latency, faster and solid connection.

Wifi speeds

Since Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO is engineered by higher speed at AC1750 wireless technology, on the hand TP-link eap225 v3 is at AC1350 wireless technology – the speed difference is @5Ghz while the wifi speed @2.4Ghz is the same @450Mbps.

The new version of eap225 is enriched with lots of wireless features including Beamforming, captive portal, load balance, band steering, MU-MIMO and etc. while Ubiquiti AC-PRO is enriched with band steering, airtime fairness, MIMO (not the multi user version of MU-MIMO).

Networking management Ubiquiti vs TP-link is nearly having the same concept – the wireless controller management software not the hardware based wireless controller. With this management software you can manage hundreds of AP devices easily and centrally even they are spread out across sites or geography.

Which one is best to meet your business need? UAP-AC-PRO provides wider bandwidth @5GHz band while @2.4Ghz band the speed is the same.

If your current network is still wired with cable modem only, what you need is a wireless router. Unless your modem is modem gateway, a modem with built-in router so you can use this wireless access point product.
