TP Link RE815XE vs Asus Wifi Extender Which One is Better

TP Link introduces various models of wifi extender products, the recent compact products are tp link re715x and re815xe with wall-plug models. How these tp link wifi extender wall-plug models compete with similar products offered by asus?

In this article:

TP Link Wifi Extender

The latest addition of tp link wifi extender products with compact wall-plug models are tp link re715x and re815xe which become popular and best seller wifi extender products in some online stores. So far tp link doesn’t introduce wifi extender products with desktop form factor, but netgear and asus do. Netgear introduced couple of desktop models wifi extender products and couple of wall-plug models that we will compare here to recent tp-link wifi extender products with wall-plug models.

Desktop or Wall-plug?

Both wall-plug and desktop models of wifi extenders are popular in the market, and the trend is leaning more towards the wall-plug models.

The wall-plug model is more compact and takes up less space, making it easier to install in tight spaces, such as behind furniture or in crowded power outlets. It also doesn’t require any additional cables, making it less cluttered. However, it may not be as aesthetically pleasing as a desktop model, and its placement may not be as flexible.

On the other hand, desktop models tend to have larger antennas and more powerful processors, which may provide better overall performance and a stronger signal. They are also more visually appealing and can blend in better with home decor, since they come in different styles and colors. However, they tend to take up more space and require additional cables for power and connectivity, which may cause more clutter.

Ultimately, the choice between a wall-plug and desktop model of wifi extender depends on personal preferences and the specific needs of the user. Those who prioritize functionality and flexibility may prefer a wall-plug model, while those who prioritize aesthetics and performance may prefer a desktop model.

TP-Link wifi Extender Comparison

The recent products offered by TP-Link are RE715x and RE815xe which are the latest additions with mesh feature as opposed to the previous models such as tp link re700x which don’t support mesh feature. All the three products boast a sleek and modern appearance, with a compact design that won’t take up too much space. They perform well, with strong and reliable signals that can cover up to 2,000 square feet.

Take a look at the following spec comparison table between tp link wifi extender products.

Wifi technology

Both TP-Link RE71X and re700 are dual band AX3000 WiFi extender products delivering the same aggregated bandwidth up to 3000Mbps. Both RE700x model and the recent RE71X are technically exactly the same, except RE700x doesn’t support mesh feature which may be a drawback for some users who want to expand their WiFi coverage throughout their home without having to change the network name and password like mesh wifi system in nature.

While the two products above are dual band ax3000, the latest addition of tp link wifi extender RE815xe is a three radio band product with the distinct 6GHz radio band in addition of 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio bands in general. This 6GHz band is future proof knowing that the next generation of wifi-7 technology is coming with the same 6GHz radio band. TP-link has revealed their next generation of wifi-7 products including Deco BE95 be33000 mesh wifi 7 and Archer BE24000 wifi-7 routers.

Mesh Feature

Like RE715x that supports mesh feature, so does TP-Link RE815XE. The tp link re700x is a legacy model that doesn’t support mesh feature. The latest models of tp link wifi extender and wifi router products support TP-Link OneMesh feature.

OneMesh is a feature offered by TP-Link in their networking products, such as routers and range extenders. It allows for seamless integration and communication between compatible TP-Link devices, creating a unified and efficient network ecosystem.

With OneMesh, users can expand their existing network coverage by adding compatible OneMesh devices without the need for separate SSIDs or complex configurations. These devices work together to form a single, unified network with a shared name and password. This simplifies the network management and improves the overall user experience.

OneMesh also enables intelligent roaming, allowing connected devices to seamlessly transition between the router and range extenders without manual switching. This ensures a consistent and stable network connection as users move around their home or office like a mesh wifi system in general.

Furthermore, OneMesh devices can be managed and monitored through a centralized management interface, such as the TP-Link Tether app or web interface. This provides convenient control over the entire network, including device setup, network settings, and parental controls.

The TP-Link OneMesh is designed to enhance network coverage, improve performance, and simplify the management of TP-Link devices within a home or office environment. It offers a seamless and unified networking experience, making it easier for users to expand and optimize their wireless networks

You can connect either re715x or re815xe to recent tp link archer wifi 7 routers that feature OneMesh technology such as Archer GX90 gaming router and the ultimate Archer AXE16000 routers.

All the three products come with one Gigabit Ethernet port you can use it as wired-connection to wire-devices such as Laptop, Internet TV, or gaming devices.

What about the competitor for these tp link wifi extender products?

TP-Link vs Asus Wifi Extender

Netgear presents an impressive lineup of compact wall-plug WiFi extenders, with their latest offerings being the Netgear EAX12 and EAX15. These dual-band extenders operate at AX1600 and AX1800 respectively, showcasing the power of WiFi 6 technology. While Netgear doesn’t currently have AX3000 or AXE5400 models, the EAX12 and EAX15 still provide remarkable performance in the compact wall-plug category. However, it’s important to note that they may not directly match the specifications of the TP-Link RE715X (AX3000) or RE815XE (AXE5400), which offer even more advanced capabilities.

To provide a comprehensive comparison, let’s also take a look at Asus’ wall-plug WiFi extender series, specifically the Asus RP-AX58U, the latest addition of Asus wifi extender, one step higher level than its previous Asus rp-ax56 series. This model shares similarities with the TP-Link RE715X, making it a worthy competitor. For a detailed breakdown of their features and specifications, refer to Table 2 below.

The Asus RP-AX58U WiFi extender is a compact and stylish wall-plug device that offers excellent performance and features. Its sleek and modern design allows for easy installation, fitting seamlessly into any home or office environment without occupying much space. The wall-plug design ensures convenience, eliminating the need for additional cables or clutter. This WiFi extender offers convenient management and customization options through the Asus router app. You can easily monitor and control your network settings, prioritize devices, and set up parental controls.

Wifi system

Both the TP-Link RE715X and Asus RP-AX58 share similarities in their dual-band operation, functioning within the AX3000 network segment. They both support mesh technology, allowing you to create a mesh WiFi network by connecting them to compatible WiFi routers. TP-Link RE715X utilizes OneMesh technology, while Asus RP-AX58 utilizes AiMesh technology, which functions similarly to TP-Link’s OneMesh.

The Asus RP-AX58 can be connected to compatible Asus WiFi 6 routers with AiMesh features, such as the Asus RT-AXE7800 WiFi 6E router or the Asus ROG Rapture GT6 AXE11000 gaming router, effectively turning it into an AiMesh node.

SSID names

The TP-Link RE715X, featuring OneMesh, allows you to create a unified network name, the same as the compatible TP-Link OneMesh routers. In contrast, Asus with AiMesh technology offers the flexibility of using either the same SSID as the WiFi router for seamless roaming or opting for a different SSID name, based on your preferences.

Operation modes

Both tp link and asus support ether range extender mode or AP mode. Asus rp-ax58 on the other hand also supports to work as media bridge mode.

Asus RP-AX58 with Media Bridge mode, it means that it can function as a bridge or converter between wired and wireless connections. In this mode, the Asus RP-AX58 can connect to an existing WiFi network and provide a wired Ethernet connection to devices that don’t have built-in WiFi capabilities.

On the other hand, the TP-Link RE715X does not support Media Bridge mode. This means that it cannot serve as a bridge between wired and wireless connections. It primarily functions as a WiFi extender, expanding the coverage and enhancing the signal strength of an existing WiFi network.
