TP-link Deco M9 Three Band Mesh Wifi System
We’ve seen that TP-link Deco M5, the first generation of Deco mesh wifi system is well known and competing with other dual band mesh wifi system so far in the market including Google mesh and first generation of Eero home. Like Eero that enhances its 1st G eero to become new Eero Pro with three band mesh wifi system, TP-link introduces new TP-link Deco M9 three band mesh wifi system. Compare Deco vs Orbi and Deco vs Plume superpod.
What this product does
The main differences between the 1st G Deco and this 2nd G Deco (M9) are that the dual vs three band and dynamic backhaul up to 1,500Mbps for Deco M9.
Deco M9 offers three band with wifi speeds up to 867Mbps @5Ghz band 1 and band 2 and up to 400Mbps @2.4Ghz band 3 for total up to 2,200Mbps. Compare with Plume superpod which delivers three band up to 867Mbps @5Ghz band 1; 1750Mbps @5Ghz band 2 and 400Mbps @2.4Ghz band 3.
Few models of mesh wifi system come with dedicated backhaul for communication between point units, and couple of later models come with dynamic backhaul. TP-link Deco M9 is not just based on dynamic backhaul but the bandwidth can grow up and down depends on how heavy the traffic is. The heavier traffic the more bandwidth (more backhaul) needed.
One 5Ghz band can dynamically acts as the main backhaul and the other two bands can support the backhaul up to 50% of its bandwidth. This makes different between Deco M9 and new Plume Superpod that features dynamic backhaul for auto selected band only.
The first generation of mesh wifi system doesn’t offer certain backhaul such as Netgear Orbi or Linksys Velop three band mesh system.
