After the introduction of D6200 wireless AC1200 ADSL modem router by Netgear, TP-link needs to produce a wireless ADSL modem gateway based on wireless ac technology. TP-link is a specialist in producing ADSL modem, so it is not surprising if it needs to introduce a new wireless ADSL modem gateway based on latest 5G wifi technology – the Archer D7.

TP-link Archer D7 is designed with the latest wireless AC1750 technology delivering speeds of up to 450Mbps in 2.4GHz and up to 1300Mbps in AC 5GHz band. Compare it with Netgear D6200 which is engineered with wireless AC1200 technology.

Like previous version of TP-link TD-W8980 or W8970, this AC model comes with three external antennas with different antenna gain in each of band, internal antennas for 2.4GHz band while the eternal antennas with amplifier for delivering 5GHz band with higher gain. D6200 comes with internal antenna arrays, however with beamforming technology that locks and focuses the clients with solid signal while they are roaming within the home.

Ethernet ports

Both TP-link Archer D7 and Netgear D6200 can be configured as wireless router that connects to the Cable modem or high speed fiber optic services. Netgear comes with dedicated WAN port and other four gigabit LAN ports. While Archer D7 uses the same Gigabit Ethernet port #4 as the WAN port should you connect to the Cable modem. In normal ADSL modem you can use this port as LAN port. This port is typically called EWAN port, Ethernet port that can be either configured as LAN or WAN port.

USB Ports

Compared with Netgear, Archer D7 is more beneficial with the inclusion of two USB ports that allows you host both storage and printer at the same time.

There is something easier in D6200 that allows you access your USB storage attached to your modem accessible remotely.       technically wireless AC1750 provides better performance, no data to proof which one provides longer distance. You better read the reviews in Amazon, both routers receive good rating – tplink is slightly better rating.
