TP-link Archer C3200 Wireless Three Band Router

TP-link offers new three band wireless router TP-link Archer C3200 powered by 1GHz dual core processor and 3 co processors.

Overview

If you notice the router model released by TP-link on the last two series namely Archer C9 and Archer C8, as well as on wireless ADSL modem router combo Archer D9 series, you can find body similarity design that is white flat box with standing form factor little bit skewed with the stand. They look nice when you place on the table. In the Q3 2015 TP-link introduced a new flagship – the Archer C3200 wireless AC3200 router – a three band wireless router with a unique design ever made before. The shape is a flat rectangular box if the six antennae are folded inside. If the six antennae are unfolded out, it looks like the upside down table with six legs. I prefer the Archer C9 design actually, looks nice and elegant. That’s the body design, what about the performance?

What this router does

The requirement for a wide bandwidth wireless network is needed in a large home with large quantities of wifi clients that frequently stream HD video or even 4k ultra HD video and online gaming. Not to mention the need for wifi clients including Android and IOS mobile devices, laptop, game console and more to access the internet is so high, a very powerful wireless router is a must in order to provide smooth 4K HD video streaming with no lags and responsive online gaming. It is why TP-link offers a three band wireless routers like other vendors with their flagship products including Netgear Archer X6 and D-link DIR890 and still more.

Three band

TP-link Archer C3200 creates simultaneous three band, one 2.4GHz band for normal internet browsing and email with the speeds up to 600Mbps and two separate 5GHz band to connect all other wireless AC-based wifi clients with total speeds of up to 2600Mbps.

With the addition of smart connect technology each devices can perform in its best since router system assigns each devices the best channel available to balance network demand.

Powerful processors

Remember that Netgear Nighthawk X6 is powered by 1GHz dual core processor and with the addition of 3 off-load processors, TP-link Archer C3200 comes with the same power horse. This will help multitasking processing for all client connections in the three band channels simultaneously and effectively with optimal throughput.

Solid connection

Archer C3200, like other C3200 routers, comes with 6x high performance external antennas that can be folded into the body to cover large area in your home and with the addition of Beamforming technology to assure solid connection wherever the devices roam within the house.

Netgear R8000 have the same antenna configuration with powerful amplifier and 6x high performance antennas that can also be folded into the body with the same direction to center line. However each of Archer C3200 antennas is folded to a single point in the center of the body. On the other hand, the six antennas of D-link DIR-890 are designed like normally wireless routers, you need to detach them when you have to pack into the box.

Port Interfaces

Although the wireless router is required to provide wifi connections, in some cases you still need direct wired connection to the router eg for desktop computers, HDTV, Blu-ray player or game console that are not equipped with wifi adapter, and indeed wired connection is reliable compared to wireless. Like other general high performance routers, Archer C3200 comes with Gigabit Ethernet interfaces both LAN (4x) and WAN ports. Gigabit WAN port is ideal in connecting your router to the high speed DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem that mostly come with Gigabit Ethernet port for optimal data rate throughput.

TP-link also introduces DOCSIS 3 cable modem – TC7610 that almost the same features as Surfboard SB6141 with 8/4 channel bonding delivering downstream speed up to 340Mbps. Or you may consider Netgear CM500 DOCSIS 3 cable modem with 16 channel bonding downstream with speeds up to 680Mbps.

In addition of Gigabit Ethernet ports, Archer C3200 like other competing routers come with 1xUSB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports for sharing disk storage and printer across the network, and they support Samba(Storage), FTP server, media server and printer Server. D-link 890 comes with mydlink SharePort app that allows you to remotely stream and share files connected to USB port including movies, music, pictures and more.

TP-link comes later in releasing wireless AC3200 routers compared with Asus and Netgear. How do you compare them? Table 1 shows you spec comparison table for the three routers.
