Orbi Pro vs Linksys Velop For Business
We have briefly discussed Netgear Orbi for home in other articles, a variety of Orbi products which consist of orbi router and orbi satellites as extenders. For more details, please follow the following link in the Linksys velop vs Orbi comparison. In this article we’ll discuss orbi pro vs Linksys velop for business.
Orbi for business
Besides Orbi for home, Netgear also releases Orbi pro for business. What is the difference between orbi for home and orbi pro for business? Is it just a label while the design and technology are the same? It could be like this, because actually what distinguishes between Orbi for home and Orbi Pro for business is actually not clear except Orbi Pro Satellite which is equipped with IP65 rated weatherproof housing.
We’ll learn carefully what exactly this Orbi pro for business. Orbi Pro is almost the same principle as Orbi for Home, which consists of Orbi Pro router and Orbi Pro satellite. And if you observe later it turns out that technically there is no difference between Orbi for home and Orbi pro for business, except couple of features.
Orbi Pro Router SSR60
Like Orbi for home, the main component of a Wi-Fi network is a wifi router that is connected to the internet modem to the ISP. Netgear offers Orbi pro ssr60 router as the center of its wifi network and if you need additional coverage then just add it with Orbi pro satellite to extend the coverage.
What are the main features of Orbi Pro SSR60? In a brief, it is almost the same as the sbr50 Orbi home router, which is based on AC3000 tri-band.
- Based on AC3000 tri-band simultaneous
- Total aggregated speed up to 3000 Mbps (1,733mbps @5Ghz + 866mbps @5Ghz +400mbps @2.4Ghz bands)
- Coverage up to 2,500 sq. ft.
- Dedicated Backhaul 4×4 (1.7Gbps) @5Ghz band
- 3 SSIDs for employee, guests, admin
- Gigabit Ethernet Ports 1 WAN and 3 LAN for Router
See that there is not much difference from Orbi for home rbr50 with the same range of 2,500 sq ft, while Orbi for home rbr20 is an AC2200 based three band router with a range of up to 2,000 sq ft.
The SSR60 is the main router with a range of up to 2,500 sq ft. the difference between Orbi Pro and Orbi for home here is 3x SSID has been prepared, three different network names: one for admin, one for employee and one for guests.
Likewise if you need to add larger coverage then you need to add one or more orbi pro satellites to add coverage of up to 2,500 sq ft each unit.
There are currently three types of Orbi Pro satellite as an Orbi Pro router add-on if a wider range is needed. There are two types for indoor needs and one type of satellite for outdoor.
1. srs60 indoor orbi pro satellite
One of the orbi pro satellites is the srs60 indoor, the first indoor satellite released by Netgear with almost the same spec as the router, consider the summary spec below:
- works with orbi pro router or orbi pro system
- AC3000 based with combined wifi speed up to 3000 Mbps (1,733+866+400 Mbps)
- Dedicated backhaul link 1.7Gbps @5ghz band
- coverage up to 2,500 sq ft
- 4x gigabit Ethernet ports, same number as router except one Ethernet port is for WAN connection to the modem.
- Add up to 6 satellites to Orbi pro router
If we compare this product with Linksys velop AC2200 which is technically the range is 2,000 sq ft, Orbi Pro Satellite is slightly wider range than velop satellite.
2. rbs50y outdoor orbi pro satellite
In addition to indoor needs, Netgear also released Orbi Pro Outdoor Rbs50y which can be placed outside your property which may be exposed to the heat and the rain. The features and specs of Orbi pro satellite are almost the same except they are designed to withstand extreme temperature changes.
- works with orbi pro router or orbi pro system
- AC3000-based technology with combined wifi speed of up to 3000 Mbps (1,733Mbps @5Ghz + 866Mbps @5Ghz + 400Mbps @2.4Ghz)
- Coverage up to 2,500 sq ft
- Dedicated backhaul 1,750mbps @5ghz band
- IP56 Compliant weather –resistant enclosure Temp range: -20°C to +50°C
- And the good thing is that this product is universal you may connect to any third party router as outdoor extender.
Linksys velop does not release similar product that can be placed outside the home as velop outdoor.
3. src60 orbi pro ceiling
Orbi pro src60 is the latest model for satellite with ceiling or wall mounted models. What is the difference with satellite Orbi pro srs60? Almost the same except src60 is only equipped with two Ethernet ports instead of four ports.
- Tri-band AC3000 Mesh wifi Satellite
- coverage up to 2,500
- Combined wifi speed 3000 Mbps (1733+866+400 Mbps)
- Dedicated backhaul 4×4 (1.7Gbps)
- Gigabit Ethernet Ports 2 LAN (Including 1 PoE LAN Port)
- ceiling or wall mount
These three satellite models can be used as extenders of the Orbi Pro router SSR60 if the range needs to be extended.
Now we have a better insight of what Orbi pro for business is, see that technically there is no significant difference between Orbi for home and Orbi Pro for business, the difference is the availability of 3 SSIDs you may use for admin, employee and one SSID for guests.
Orbi Pro vs Linksys Velop for business
Now, we try to compare Orbi pro for business with Linksys velop for business. We’ll start to briefly discuss what this Linksys velop for business is.
Linksys velop for business
Unlike Orbi which separates Orbi for home and Orbi Pro for business, Linksys doesn’t separate the two functions. You can use Linksys velop AC2200 (WHW0301) as the router and can also be used as satellite with auto detection WAN port to deploy in business environment.
This time we use three Linksys velop AC2200 (whw0303) and compared with Orbi Pro that consists of Orbi pro router (ssr60) with two Orbi Pro ceiling model satellite (src60).
With a different network segment base where Orbi with AC3000 technology compared to Linksys velop with AC2200 of course the total aggregated bandwidth is also different. However, there is a unique thing where Orbi uses dedicated backhaul link while Linksys velop does not.
With a backhaul link, the dedicated path between nodes with 1.7Gbps bandwidth makes your wifi network free of obstacles free latency for communication between nodes. While user needs use two other bands of 867Mbps @ 5Ghz and 400Mbps @ 2.4Ghz band.
Whereas Linksys velop uses all bandwidth into one shared bandwidth for both the user and the link between nodes.
On the other hand, Orbi provides 4 Ethernet ports on each node compared to Linksys velop which only has two ports on each node. However, most Ethernet ports are not widely used appropriately except as a client connection with an Ethernet connection.
