Nighthawk X4S Vs EA8500 Vs Archer AC2600

Many vendors released the three band ac3200 wireless router before releasing the two band model of wifi ac2600 router, as well as Netgear that released wifi ac3200 router before releasing wifi ac2600 router product (aka Nighthawk x4s). in the ac2600 network segment has previously released several models of ac2600 routers including Linksys ea8500, the TP-link ac2600 and Amped RTA2600 high power router.

Now, how those three products are compared? Firstly we need to discuss Nighthawk X4s before comparing them.

What this Nighthawk X4s does

Although Netgear has released its premium product wireless AC5300 Nighthawk X8 router, Netgear also wants to fill the ac2600 network segment market which has already been filled by similar products by other few vendors.

Dual band

By looking at the ac2600 label, this router has a total bandwidth of around 2,600Mbps. @2.4GHz band it delivers speeds up to 800Mbps connect to wireless N devices, and @5 GHz band it delivers speed of up to 1,733 Mbps connect to wireless AC devices. When compared to the AC3200 tri-band router model (Nighthawk X6 aka Netgear R8000), the speed of Nighthawk x4s @ 5Ghz band is higher (@ 1733Mbps vs. @ 1300Mbps for R8000).

It comes with 4x external high performance antennas, the router features MU-MIMO (multi-user MIMO) technology for streaming data to multiple devices simultaneously as opposed to traditional non MU-MIMO routers which deliver one data stream to each device in a time. Mostly AC2600 is engineered with this MU-MIMO technology including Linksys EA8500. This feature’s eliminating bottleneck when multiple devices connect together at the same time requesting huge data traffic.

Netgear r7800 / Nighthawk x4s wireless ac2600 router

Main features

  • Total bandwidth of up to 2.53 Gbps (800 Mbps in 2.4GHz + 1733Mbps in 5GHz), faster speed @5Ghz band than those AC3200 tri-band model
  • Quad data stream technology – MU-MIMO Wave2 Wifi technology and supports 160MHz
  • 4x high performance external antennas with 4×4 data stream design with MU-MIMO antenna design
  • Powered by 1.7 GHz dual core processor with 512 MB RAM
  • Beamforming+ for solid wifi connection and longer distance coverage
  • Dual USB 3.0 ports and e-SATA port for storage
  • Netgear Genie apps for network management

With the above highlights, you will see that technically it is almost the same as the wireless AC2400 router (Nighthawk X4) which was released long time ago.

Nighthawk X4 Vs X4S

Middle of 2014 Netgear offered Wireless AC2350 router – the Nighthawk X4 (aka Netgear R7500) which was I thought the ultimate router before finally Netgear released Nighthawk X6 router with wireless AC3200 three band technology.

So what are the differences between the Nighthawk X4 and Nighthawk X4S. The first difference is the wireless AC speed. X4 is based on wireless AC2350 meaning the total bandwidth is up to 2,350 Mbps (600+1733), while X4S is based on wireless AC2600 with total bandwidth of up to 2,53 Gbps (800+1733).

Secondly, the hardware performance. X4 is powered by 1.4GHz dual core processor with 256MB RAM, the same processor used by Linksys EA8500. While X4S is powered by the faster processor – the 1.7 GHz dual core processor with 512 MB RAM. Surely you will find the processing tasks is faster for X4S than X4.

Thirdly, the difference is about the MU-MIMO technology as discussed earlier what this technology is for simultaneous data transfer for multiple devices connected to the router at a time. And still minor features that can be presented in the following comparison table.

Nighthawk X4S Vs Linksys EA8500 Vs TP-link AC2600

It’s not hard to find wireless AC2600 router from various vendors in popular online stores such as Amazon and Buy, prices are not so far different – just couples of buck different from one store to the other. Just buy from where you feel convenience to deal with. Now which one is suitable for your need? You have AC2600 choices in the market including Linksys EA8500, TP-link Archer AC2600 router, Amped Athena and still more.

Have a look at the following two tables for references should are planning to purchase one AC2600 router. Table 2 compares Nighthawk X4S and Linksys EA8500 and table 3 compares X4S Vs Archer AC2600 router.

The fastest 1.7 GHz dual core processor is embedded in the new Netgear R7800 while the other two competing routers are using the same 1.4 GHz dual core processor.
