Netgear Rax78 Ax6200 vs Surfboard vs D-link
In addition of the previous series of Netgear Rax80 ax6000 wifi-6 router, Netgear adds two other more wifi-6 routers – Netgear rax70 and Netgear rax78 wifi-6 routers.
What these products do?
Physically, the two Netgear rax70 and rax78 series are exactly the same, and are almost similar to the previous Netgear rax80 series and also Netgear rax120 and rax200 series. All series are designed with almost the same body style with the two antenna wings on the left and right sides of the body.
Netgear rax70 vs rax78
Netgear rax70 and rax78 are two additional models of the first generation Netgear rax80 when Netgear introduced its debut in wifi-6 router. Technically, the main difference between each product is the network segment each of the product works.
Please refer to the following table below that shows you spec differences between the two series of rax70 and rax78. See that there are not much differences but the network segment difference.
Table 1 Netgear rax70 vs rax78

- 5x Gigabit Ethernet ports, 1xWAN and 4x LAN ports, two ports can be aggregated for two gigabit Ethernet port
- 1x USB 3.0 port with ReadyShare USB disk wirelessly share and access and ReadyShare Vault for PC backup to USB disk
- Quad core 64-bit 1.5GHz processor with 256MB NAND flash and 512MB DDR3 SDRAM
- More channels with additional DFS channels
- Netgear Armor network threat protection
With three radio bands, you can group which devices should be connected to which radio band so as to avoid network congestion.
Netgear rax78 vs D-link vs Asus
Now we compare these two products with other products that are likely to be competitors of these new Netgear’s products. Netgear rax70 has been discussed before, now we focused on Netgear rax78 and compare it with two other products, D-link dir-x5460 ax5400 and Asus rt-ax82u ax5400.
See that the two competing products d-link ax5400 and asus ax5400 come with dual band as opposed to three band offered by Netgear rax78 ax6200. More over the network segment each of the product series works differs slightly.
All the three products with 4.8Gbps @ 5 GHz radio band supports 4×4 MU-MIMO, the routers send four streams of data concurrently to 1×1 MU-MIMO connected devices, or send two streams of data to all compliant 2×2 MU-MIMO connected devices simultaneously. This will be faster and reduce network latency.

Other interfaces look the same, number of Ethernet ports are the same and only different in number of USB port, one or two ports each product.
With Asus rt-ax82u ax5400, this router is good for gamers in mind, the mobile gamers knowing that this router can be configured to mobile game mode. Moreover, with dedicated game port your game console automatically gets game traffic prioritization.
You can subscribe Netgear Armor for network protection with Netgear rax78 ax6200. However you have no option for D-link security protection but enhanced parental control. With Asus rt-ax82u you have free lifetime Asus AiProtection network security protection powered by Trend Micro.
