The highest aggregated bandwidth either in wifi 6 or wifi 6e routers is 11,000Mbps. With wifi 6 routers you see ax11000, while with wifi 6e routers you’ll see axe11000. Few vendors including netgear, asus, tplink, and linksys introduce both wifi 6 and wifi 6e routers with ultimate 11,000mbps aggregated bandwidth.
In this article:
- Netgear Rax200 Ax11000
- 4×4 MU-MIMO
- Netgear rax200 vs Archer ax11000
- Spec Comparison Table Rax200 vs Archer
Let’s focus at ax11000 and take netgear with its netgear rax200 and compare it with tplink with its archer ax11000, see which one is better value.
Netgear Rax200 Ax11000
Netgear rax200 is one of tri-band ax11000 wifi 6 routers available in the market today. Ax11000 is a three band network segment which is generally designed with 4×4 mu-mimo each radio band at either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz with the maximum speed given by each radio band so as to provide a total aggregate bandwidth of up to 11000Mbps. This allows large clients density to simultaneously run bandwidth intensive applications such as online gaming and 4k video streaming smoothly no jitter no lagging.
4×4 MU-MIMO
For networks with large client’s density, a wifi router that supports mu-mimo is very effective in sending multiple data streams to multiple clients simultaneously, thereby increasing data throughput and reducing latency.
With 4×4 mu-mimo, the router can send 4 data streams to 4 clients (that support mu-mimo) simultaneously. You can find some wifi 6 adapter products that support 2×2 mu-mimo in the market such as asus ax3000 (pce-ax58) and Fenvi axe3000 you can install to your desktop computers with pci-e slots available. See also most popular wifi 6 adapters in the market.
So if you have two desktop computers with 2×2 mu-mimo wifi 6 adapter installed on each of pci-e slots, the router can send two streams of data to both desktops concurrently. For laptops that come with usb 3.0 ports available you can install wifi 6 USB 3.0 adapters available in the markets today such as edup ep-169s and Fenvi USB 3.0 adapters, both are ax1800 wifi 6 adapters.
Wifi 6 or wifi 6e adapters?
Before wifi 6e is applied to the routers or mesh router products, there were few wifi 6 adapters available in the market, dual band @2.4ghz and 5ghz, and today there are few models of wifi 6e routers are introduced into the market. They are designed with three distinct radio bands with the addition of 6ghz radio bands. So should you choose which adapter is to choose, wifi 6e adapters is the preference. Because with wifi 6e adapter you can connect either to wifi 6 routers @5ghz or wifi 6e routers @6ghz band.
Netgear rax200 vs Archer ax11000
Both Netgear rax200 and tp-link archer ax11000 are designed with the same ax11000 and feature 4×4 mu-mimo each band delivering total 12 streams. See also Netgear rax120 that comes with 8 streams, and also netgear rax80.
So what is the difference between netgear rax200 and tp-link archer ax11000?
Technically, the difference between these two products can be presented in table 1 below.
I have discussed above that these two products are technically the same. The ax11000 three band routers are ideal for homes with high density clients. The clients that simultaneously run bandwidth intensive applications such as online gaming, 4k video streaming, etc. During the pandemic the need for routers with wide bandwidth increased, especially for work from home needs. Many 4k streaming and video conference webcams are available in the market and the need is increasing during the pandemic for video calling or streaming.
So what is the difference?
Ethernet ports
Physically, the apparent difference can be seen in the number of Ethernet ports on the rear panel of each product, including the 2.5gbps multi-gig port. However, the function of this multi-gig port is different. Archer ax11000 makes this multi-gig port function as a WAN port, while on the Netgear Rax200 this port is specifically used as a LAN port.
With Archer ax11000 for multi-gig internet plan you need to connect this 2.5Gbps wan port to a cable modem that comes with the same 2.5Gbps port such as Arris Surfboard S33 or Netgear cm2000. See also Motorola docsis 3.1 cable modem vs Arris.
On the other hand, for multi-gig internet plan netgear rax200 requires link aggregation configuration for wan port and one of the lan port. You can use the Netgear cm1100 or cm1200 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem which provides more than one port for link aggregation needs. Or you can also configure multi-Gig port (2.5Gbps port) as WAN port and connect to modem with multi-gig port too such as arris s33 or cm2000.
How to enable multi-gig port on netgear rax200?
You need to log-on from your computer / mobile device and access the routerlogin.net from your browser. As admin user you can open BASIC Home page and select the Internet. From the WAN preference section select Multi-Gig port you can select either 2.5Gbps or 1.0Gbps port radio button and click Apply.
So with netgear rax200 you have a flexible option with multi-Gig 2.5Gbps port. Should you use this port for high speed LAN connection, such as connecting to NAS that supports multi-gig ports, for example, Assustore lockerstor NAS, while you also need multi-gig internet plan then rax200 provides the right solution. You need to use DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem that comes with dual Ethernet ports such as netgear cm1100 or cm1200 and connect both ports to WAN port and LAN port (aggregation mode) and enable the multi-gig internet port from the menu and select the 1.0Gbps radio button as discussed above.
