WiFi technology is developing very fast, maybe we haven’t had the chance to experience the fastest two band ac based wifi routers such as ac2900 or ac3100 router, while wifi technology has reached to the sixth generation of wireless ax / wifi 6.
What if our ac1750 wifi router is broken or unsatisfied with its performance, do you want to replace it with a similar router from another vendor or upgrade with a product with new technology? What do you get if you replace it with a similar product from another vendor, for example from Asus or Linksys? We see a comparison of their features.
Netgear AC1750 vs Asus vs Linksys
The ac1750 wireless router was the first model to come out on the market when the introduction of wireless ac (wifi 5) technology in the market such as the Netgear R6400, R6700 and its competitors were Asus AC66U and Linksys EA7500 AC1900. I intentionally used the Linksys ac1900 as a comparison for slightly higher network segment than the ac1750 especially in the 2.4Ghz band.

Take a look at the following two main spec comparison tables of the three wireless ac1750 and ac1900 router products. Table 1 gives a comparison between the netgear r6700 and Asus rt-ac66u and you see that the two wifi routers have almost the same spec except few features like beamforming and airtime fairness and a higher speed processor for the Netgear r6700. Airtime fairness feature is to prevent network lag when both legacy and latest based clients connect to the same network, slower legacy clients won’t make the network lag when connect to the same network.
Both are currently (nov 2019) tagged with the price for around $ 80.

Upgrade to Mesh System
If your R6700 is broken and replace it with a similar R6700 product, the problem is resolved. See the possibility that you need a wider range then a wireless range extender for around $ 80 must be purchased so you spend around $ 160 for a new R6700 router and WiFi Extender for a wider range.
So an upgrade solution with a mesh wifi system can be considered, we take the Meshforce M1 or M3 whole home system for a slightly more expensive around $ 170, only add $10 you get a mesh wifi system with three sets that can cover your home up to 4,500 sq ft from basement to attic.

Netgear AC1750 vs Linksys AC1900
Now we turn to the possibility of purchasing a wifi router with a higher network segment, namely Linksys ac1900, consider table 2 below.
There is a speed difference in the 2.4 GHz band, Linksys is higher. And also Linksys ac1900 has already applied MU-MIMO technology. Good, the technology is better, the question is whether your connected clients also support MU-MIMO all this time at home?
If your connected devices don’t support MU-MIMO then useless, all that’s left is the speed in the 2.4Ghz band which is higher for Linksys. And the price of Linksys AC1900 is around 40% more expensive than the R6700 Netgear.
Linksys EA7500 is embedded by the fastest processor – 1.4GHz dual core processor. The same processor speed as in Netgear AC5300 Nighthawk X8 and even TP-link AC2600 router comes with 1.4GHz dual core processor.
There are few competitive models available in the market today you may consider to choose instead of Linksys ea7500. For example Tenda AC15 wireless AC1900 router.
