What this product does
After Netgear offered the flagship of three band wireless router the Nighthawk X8 smart wifi router with four external active antennas. And today, Netgear introduces Orbi home wifi system. What this product does?
Orbi home wifi system is a new way of creating high speed home wifi system in an easy way by connecting the Orbi router to provide solid home wifi system up to 2,000 sq. ft. And by adding the Orbi satellite you can add more 2,000 sq. ft. coverage of solid wifi system throughout your large home.

All the three band work simultaneously provides total bandwidth of up to 1,300Mbps to accommodate all your wifi clients with Beamforming and MU-MIMO technologies for solid connections and better coverage. It is slightly different with three band router in general such as Netgear R8000 Nighthawk X6 with speeds up to 1,300Mbps + 1,300Mbps (@5GHz band 1 and @5GHz band 2) plus 600Mbps (@2.4GHz band 3).
The first unit is the wireless router unit with 4x Gigabit Ethernet ports consists of three Gigabit LAN ports and one Gigabit WAN port. The satellite unit comes with four Gigabit LAN ports, no WAN port. The satellite unit works like range extender. See also top ten range extender.

Now let’s compare with Eero Pro, the next generation of eero home which is now claimed to much faster and better performance than the first generation eero home.
Orbi Vs Eero Pro wifi system
Unlike Orbi home wifi system which is a three band wifi system, the Eero home wifi system is a two band system, simultaneous 2.4GHz band and 5GHz band but the next generation of eero Pro is three band.
With Eero you add a router system to connect to the modem and the other unit works as satellite unit like the way Orbi works. Each unit of eero home comes with standard wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with coverage of up to 1,000 sq. ft but the eero pro covers up to 1,500 sq ft.
Have a look at the following comparison table to see more details spec differences (if any) between Orbi and Eero home wifi system.
Technically Orbi is more superior with its three band wifi system and higher speed than Eero pro. Orbi is ready with high performance MU-MIMO and Beamforming technologies while Eero home is not ready for those techs but the eero pro is ready with 2×2 MU-MIMO and beamforming. Orbi with 2,000 sq. ft. coverage is twice as wide as Eero per unit. Moreover, with total bandwidth of up to 3,000Mbps Orbi is more superior compared with Eero home. Eero pro can cover long distance coverage up to 1,500 sq ft each unit.
Eero doesn’t specifically showing the technical spec regarding the speed. However, guessing by the 2×2 MIMO technology it is applied meaning that the speed is up to 867Mbps @5GHz band and up to 300Mbps @2.4GHz band. However, the technical guys said that the speed is 640Mbps @5Ghz band.

Orbi is promising, instead of adding a three band wireless router such as Netgear Nighthawk X6 plus one of most popular dual band range extender Nighthawk AC2200 range extender (EX7300) for total cost of $410 ($260 + $150), Orbi is still cheaper. Moreover, setup is easier and you will have a single home three band wifi system.
Eero with $499 for three pack is costly for typical homes, you may consider most popular two band routers plus one of most popular wifi range extender such as Linksys Max Stream range extender.
