Netgear released another series of wifi-6 range extender eax15 in addition to the previous series of desktop model eax20 that was available on the market for a while. We will compare it with the wifi-6 extender model offered by TP-link – the TP-link re505x.
What this product does
In the mesh wifi network of the mesh wifi products available in the market today, which are generally sold in packages of two or three devices, when the coverage cannot cover the area you need to have it covered by solid wifi network you just need to add one or more mesh nodes or mesh satellites. What about wifi routers in general?

One network name
When your existing wifi router at home cannot reach the area you need to cover the wifi network, what you need to do is to add a wifi range extender. With the addition of range extender usually creates separate network name and password than the connected wifi router, so your mobile devices cannot roam easily when they move from one network name to another one. So that’s why Netgear releases new series of wifi-6 range extender that allows you to create a mesh wifi system with the same network name and password as the connected wireless router, so your mobile devices can roam seamlessly moving from one router network to another range extender network.

Previously Netgear released Eax20 ax1800 range extender with desktop model, and today Netgear adds another model of wifi-6 ax1800 range extender with wall-plug model – the Netgear eax15, or eax15-nas100 ax1800 wifi-6 range extender. So what is the difference between eax15 and eax20
Eax20 vs Eax15
Physically both wifi-6 range extenders are different. Netgear eax20 is designed with desktop form factor with power adapter you can place on the table, while eax15 is designed with wall-plug model you need to plug in to the desired power outlet where you need to cover larger coverage.
Technically both series are the same, except the number of Ethernet port. Take a look at the following spec comparison table between the two series.
Table 1 Eax20 vs eax15
Model | Netgear eax15 | Netgear eax20 |
Wifi technology | Simultaneous dual band wifi 6 ax1800 range extender with 4 streams | Simultaneous dual band wifi 6 ax1800 range extender with 4 streams |
Wifi speeds | Band 1: 0.6Gbps @2.4GHz – 1024QAM Band 2: 1.2Gbps @5GHz – 1024QAM | up to 600Mbps @2.4GHz – 1024QAM up to 1.2Gbps @5GHz – 1024QAM |
Mesh Wifi | One network name and password as the connected wifi router with seamless roaming | Create mesh wifi with one network name same as the wifi router, seamless roaming |
Ethernet Ports | 1x Gigabit Ethernet port – auto-sensing technology | 4x Gigabit Ethernet ports |
Price | $129.99 | $149.99 |
The good thing with this wifi-6 range extender is that you can create one network name like a mesh wifi system, the same SSID name and password as the connected wireless router. Any standard 802.11k compliant devices can roam seamlessly with this mesh wifi network.
Highlights
- Simultaneous dual band ax1800 wifi-6 range extender with 4-streams MU-MIMO
- Wifi speeds of up to 600Mbps @2.4GHz plus up to 1,200Mbps @5GHz
- Backward compatible with any 802.11b/g/n/ac devices
- Create mesh wifi system, the same one network name and password as the connected wifi router
- 1x Gigabit Ethernet Port
- Smart roaming seamlessly for any standard 802.11k compliant devices
- Powered by 1.5GHz quad core processor
- Easy to setup with plug-in on the power outlet
Netgear eax15-nas100 is an ideal wifi-6 range extender to add to your existing Netgear / Nighthawk wifi-6 router including Netgear rax20 ax1800 router, or any other third party router such as Linksys e7350 ax1800 router or Huawei ax3000 router.

Netgear eax15 vs Re505x
There are not many wifi-6 range extender products currently available on the market, and one of the competing products of the eax15-nas100 is the TP-link Re505x which is a wifi-6 extender released by tp-link with a wall-plug model. One more product that will be released soon by tp-link is re603x. Re505x is designed with ax1500 network segment technology while the new comer re603x is an ax1750x extender.

So what is the difference between Netgear eax15 and TP-link re505x?
Network Segment
The apparent difference technically is the network segment difference applied to each of the wifi-6 extender products. With ax1500, re505x delivers wifi speed @2.4GHz half the wifi speed of eax15. The wifi speed @5GHz band is the same.
Now take a look at the following spec comparison table between Netgear eax15 and TP-link re505x, see that not much difference between the two products except the speed @2.4GHz band.
Table 2 Netgear ax1800 vs TP-link AX1500 range extender
Model | Netgear eax15 | TP-link re505x |
Wifi technology | Simultaneous dual band ax1800 wifi-6 with 4-streams MU-MIMO | Simultaneous dual band wifi-6 ax1500 range extender |
Wifi speeds | Band 1: 0.6Gbps @2.4GHz – 1024QAM Band 2: 1.2Gbps @5GHz – 1024QAM | Band 1: 300Mbps @2.4GHz Band 2: 1200Mbps @5GHz |
Mesh wifi | Mesh with one network name | Create mesh only with compatible Onemesh routers / Wireless gateway |
Ethernet Port | 1x Gigabit Ethernet Port | 1x Gigabit Ethernet Port |
Price | $129.99 | $89.99 |
With price difference between the products around $40, you can select which one is suitable to meet your need. TP-link re505 is $40 cheaper than eax15.
