Netgear C6250 Vs Surfboard SBG6872 Vs Archer CR700

Netgear offers another model of wireless cable modem router combo – Netgear C6250-100NAS besides the previous models of Netgear C3700 wireless N600 and C6300 wireless AC1750 cable modem router. The new flagship in wireless cable modem router combo is Netgear C7000 which is based on wireless AC1900 and high speed DOCSIS 3 cable modem with 32 channel bonding delivers download speeds of up to 960Mbps. Now, let me focus on the C6250 and compare it with Surfboard Arris SBG6782 and TP-link Archer CR700.

What this product does

Unlike the other Netgear cable modem router combo products with tower models, the model of C6250 is designed similar with the first generation of wireless AC routers such as R6300 AC1750 router which is tower with slightly inclined backward with the stand.

This wireless router product is designed with wireless AC1600-based technology with built-in DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, high speed cable modem with 16 channel bonding speeds of up to 680Mbps. Arris with Surfboard SB6183 cable modem has the same speed as this C6250-100NAS cable modem router combo. This might be a good choice for users that need high speed cable modem with high speed wifi router in a single compact device instead of purchasing cable modem and separate wireless router. The modem is compatible with major cable providers.

Main features

  • Based on wireless AC1600 router simultaneous dual band
  • Wifi speeds up to 1300Mbps in 5GHz band and up to 300Mbps in 2.4GHz band

Comparison C6250 Vs SBG6782 Vs CR700

All of the three products are wireless modem router combo – a wireless router with built-in DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem. Now what are the differences amongst them? On the following tables are spec comparison tables between Netgear C6250 vs SBG6782 (table 1) and Netgear C6250 vs TP-link Archer CR700 (table 2).

Wifi

All the three products are based on wireless AC technology with different speeds. C6250-100NAS and CR700 deliver AC speeds up to 1,300Mbps, Arris SBG6782 speeds up to 1,350Mbps in 5GHz band with wireless AC connection to clients. While in 2.4GHz band you can see the speeds differences in table with wireless N connection. Beamforming technology is applied to both Arris 6782 and Archer CR700, but Netgear is not. This technology perform much better when connecting to the clients with the same beamforming feature, following the clients with strong signal strength while roaming within the network coverage.

Note, Arris offers higher wifi speed in new model Arris Surfboard SBG6900 with wifi speeds up to 1,900Mbps.

Interface ports

Many people do not utilize all the four available LAN ports in most wireless routers, most people utilize not more than two available ports for desktops. No wonder Netgear is confident with two gigabit LAN ports instead of four Gigabit LAN ports like the other two competing products.

USB port is absent in Arris SBG6782, one USB 2.0 port in Netgear and two ports in Archer.

Cable modems

The good thing with all the three products is the built-in DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, latest high speed cable modem that would fit to mostly cable providers that have DOCSIS 3 infrastructure. However they have different number of channel bonding either in downstream or upstream speeds. Both Netgear C6250 and Archer CR700 have the same speeds, 16 / 4 channel bonding. On the other hand Arris SBG6782 delivers 8 / 4 channel bonding half the downstream speeds compared with the other two products.

All the three products are tagged with almost the same price, slightly different actually you know that in line with the times the prices are fluctuated and tend to get cheaper particularly when vendors introduce newer models with richer features.

Summary

Wireless cable modem router combo offers better solution in reducing the clutter of devices that generally consists of native modem plus a wireless router to build a wifi network in homes. However, tech savvy prefers separate modem plus wireless router than single combo device. For the three products as discussed, technically TP-link Archer CR700 offers richer features than the other two products – Netgear C6250-100NAS and Arris SBG6782.

Thanks for correction Sam, will fix it soon. It says no beamforming feature in it’s page, but the link you refer says it features beamforming.
