Netgear AC2600 Vs D-link Vs Asus

Netgear introduces new model of middle class wireless AC router based on wireless AC2600 after releasing several models of high bandwidth wireless AC routers in AC3200 and AC5300 segments. This new model is Nighthawk X4s based on wireless AC2600 technology.

What this product does.

Netgear R7800-100NAS (aka Nighthawk X4s) is different in speeds compared with its predecessor Nighthawk X4. This comparison between the two X4 and X4s has been discussed in comparison between X4s and Archer AC2600.

This router delivers total bandwidth of up to 2600Mbps both bands, with the 4×4 data streams the router can deliver faster speeds of wireless AC up to 1734Mbps in 5GHz band. While in 2.4GHz band the wireless N network can deliver speed 3×3 data streams up to 600Mbps.

All of the high end wireless AC features are applied to this model including MU-MIMO, Beamforming, Smart Connect and still more.

Note: Netgear introduces new Netgear wireless gaming XR700 router – a high speed wireless gaming router with new wireless AD technology.

Comparison X4s Vs Asus AC87U Vs D-link 885

Now, currently there are some models of wireless AC routers in the market that have almost some features difference that might be worth to compare knowing that the prices are not so much different significantly, they are Asus RT-AC87U and D-link AC3150. Have a look at the following two comparison tables.

Table 1 compares between Netgear AC2600 and Asus RT-AC87U and table 2 compares Netgear AC2600 and D-link AC3150. All of the three models are two band routers, even though currently there have been around few models with wireless AC three band routers such as Nighthawk X6 AC3200 router and D-link DIR-890 AC3200 router, both are wireless AC3200 routers. And couples of models are also available in higher bandwidth with three band routers – the wireless AC5300 routers such as Nighthawk X8 and D-link 895.

Wifi technology

All the three routers come with high end 4×4 data streams, X4s and AC87U delivers the same speed as 1734Mbps in 5GHz, same speed like other AC2600 routers including Archer C2600 router by TP-link and also Amped RTA2600 high power router (you may also compare it with this X4s router). While D-link 885 delivers faster speed of up to 2167Mbps in 5GHz band. All the three products engineered with Beamforming technology and support Multi User MIMO (MU-MIMO) technology for delivering beams of data to multiple devices on one go, not one device to the other device like traditional non MU-MIMO routers.

Both Nighthawk X4s and D-link 885 support Smart-Connect technology, but Asus RT-AC87U doesn’t. Smart-Connect technology will automatically connects each of the wifi clients to the best wifi band possible, the slow devices will not compete with the speedy devices on the same band.

Most high end devices router come with Gigabit Ethernet ports and USB port(s), even though the combination number of LAN ports and USB ports are sometimes different.

Ethernet Ports

Four Gigabit LAN ports is the general number of mostly the high performance routers, and minimum one USB 3.0 port becomes a standard today with the addition of another USB 2.0 port and sometimes come together with e-SATA port either dedicated port or combo port with USB 2.0 port, even some high end wireless AC routers come with more than four ports such as Netgear X8 with six ports and two ports can be aggregated to deliver faster speeds. And the new coming Linksys AC5400 router equip with eight Gigabit LAN ports.

USB Ports

This time Netgear offers twin USB 3.0 ports on Nighthawk X4s, generally most high end routers come with combination of one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 port. Even Netgear AC2600 offers another separate e-SATA port on the right side of the body not combo together with USB 2.0 like in general, while twin USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the body.

Netgear AC2600 and some older models upgraded with new firmware supports new Netgear Genie with ReadyCLOUD USB Access, it’s a secure personal access to USB storage from anywhere you are. D-link 885 offers the same feature with its mydlink SharePort web access.

Now, examine the following two comparison tables. Netgear AC2600 Nighthawk X4s and D-link 885 wireless AC3150 are currently tagged with almost the same bucks. Competitive price between the two products actually, now which one is suitable the best to meet your business need? You will judge.

More than 7K customers provides their testimonies about this Netgear AC2600 Nighthawk X4s with average 4.3 out of 5 stars. D-link with faster 4×4 data streams not so popular than Netgear in gaining testimonies even though so far the average rating for DIR-885 is also excellent. Pair those routers with high speed D-link DWA192 USB adapter.

For lower budget, you might consider new model of Asus RT-ACRH13 wireless AC1300 which is already ready with MU-MIMO technology, price is under $80.
