Linksys RE9000 vs Netgear EX8000 Range Extender
Linksys introduces new RE9000 wireless three band range extender to allow you extend the wifi network and roam seamlessly with one SSID name when paired with other Linksys Max Stream wireless routers.
Most vendors redesign their new wireless extender products to support one of the features of mesh wifi network that allows you to use single SSID name throughout the home, no need to change network name when you roam from room to room. It roam seamlessly using the same SSID name even though you connect from wifi router to wifi extender. This model is applied to few models such as Linksys RE9000 and Netgear ex8000 or Nighthawk X6s.
That’s what Linksys RE9000 wireless range extender does, it connect to any types of wireless router or wireless gateway to extend the wifi network and eliminate dead zones. However, to roam seamlessly using the same SSID name you need to connect RE9000 to any model of Linksys Max Stream products including Linksys EA8500 wireless ac2600 router or Linksys EA7500 wireless ac1900 router.
Most recent range extender products support wireless ac network, dual or three band. Linksys RE9000 is a three band range extender product, one band @5Ghz is dedicated for backhaul and the other two bands are dedicated for clients connection. It’s a similar concept as those mesh home wifi routers. The wifi speed is up to 1200Mbps (400Mbps @2.4Ghz plus 866Mbps @5Ghz) for clients connection and dedicated backhaul is up to 1733Mbps @5Ghz band.
Similar concept is applied to new models of Asus AiMesh products such as Asus RT-AC86U AiMesh wifi router that works as mesh wifi system when connect to the same Asus AiMesh routers such as Asus RT-AC68U, Asus RT-AC5300 routers.
Linksys RE9000 connect universally to any third party routers, however it can only connect to other Linksys Max Stream products to work as mesh system.

Linksys RE9000 vs Nighthawk X6s
Now let’s compare Linksys RE9000 with Nighthawk X6s mesh range extender, similar model of wireless range extender with three band model offered by Netgear. In addition, Netgear introduces another wall-plug model of mesh wifi range extender – the Nighthawk X4s (EX7500) mesh extender.
Table 1 below shows you head to head spec comparison table between Linksys RE9000 and Netgear EX8000 / Nighthawk X6s mesh wifi extender.

One SSID name
Linksys RE9000 can work as mesh wifi system and use the same SSID name as the extended router only if the router is the same Max Stream model such as Linksys EA7500 or EA8500 routers. However with Nighthawk X6s you can connect to any routers and use the same SSID name as the router.
