Huawei introduces another series of mesh wifi – Huawei Q2 Pro Mesh Hybrid Wifi. How good is it compared with TP-link Deco P9?
Huawei Q2 Pro
Huawei Q2 Pro is a simultaneous dual band AC1200 mesh wifi system in general but it comes with PLC turbo technology as backhaul. With your wifi devices that work @2.4GHz band, Q2 Pro delivers speed up to 300Mbps. With your wireless N MU-MIMO compliant devices, it delivers 2×2 MU-MIMO up to 867Mbps.
Huawei Q2 Pro consists of Q2 Pro router as the base station and one wall-plug model satellite as range extender with mesh technology. You can add one or more Q2 Pro satellites up to 15 satellites for larger coverage.
Mesh wifi networks generally use a wifi connection for link communication between nodes (between mesh router and mesh satellite), or what is referred to as backhaul link. However, wifi signals often experience obstacles when they have to penetrate thick walls between rooms at home. For this reason, Huawei offers a powerline backhaul solution with PLC turbo technology. Powerline adapters are commonly used as network communication media like UTP network cables in general, but powerline uses the existing electrical wiring in your home as a data transmission medium. Of course, when compared to a wifi connection that is vulnerable to signal interference, a powerline network is relatively more reliable like wired Ethernet network. With powerline as backhaul, Huawei Q2 Pro is like a three-band mesh wifi with one of the band is used as dedicated backhaul and the other two radi bands are used for connected devices up to 1.2Gbps.

Huawei Q2 vs Deco P9
Huawei Q2 Pro is not the first mesh wifi product that uses powerline as a backhaul link, previously there has been a similar product available in the market offered by TP-link – Deco P9 which also uses a powerline backhaul.
Both of these two products use the same wifi technology, simultaneous dual band ac1200 with powerline backhaul. Unlike the Huawei Q2, the Deco P9 provides an optional wired Ethernet backhaul when you combine the Deco P9 with other Deco models so there is a hybrid backhaul.
