Google Nest vs eero Pro Mesh Wifi

It seems that Google with its Google Nest product competes tightly with the Eero Pro 2nd Generation mesh wifi product after being acquired by Amazon. Eero was acquired by Amazon and redesigned to be compatible with all Amazon smart home products such as Alexa, Blink cameras etc.

Google Nest with its satellites is actually a good blend of mesh wifi products, you no longer need Alexa products or a separate Google assistant as voice control because Google Nest satellite comes with built-in stereo speakers that function as a Google assistant and also make it easier for you to play music with stereo sound quality. Besides that, because as a satellite from Google Nest, this product also functions to add wifi coverage in your home, almost similar to that offered by Netgear with its Orbi Voice Satellite.

Which one is suitable to meet your home need, the Google Nest (2 routers) and you may add Nest point satellite which also works as Google assistant (unfortunately Amazon doesn’t sell the Nest point, probably business reason due to competing with Amazon Alexa) or eero Pro (eero router plus 2 beacon).

Google Nest vs eero Pro

The following table 1 shows you spec comparison between Google Nest and eero Pro. The Eero footprint is slightly wider than the Nest router, but Nest router is high and uses more space than two units of Eero stacked together.

Wifi

Google Nest is designed with simultaneous dual band AC2200 technology, but the Nest point or Nest Satellite is based on AC1200 technology. The backhaul link between Nest units use share bandwidth with connected devices on the network @5GHz band, and with two Nest routers link together gives you range coverage up to 4,400 sq ft, you may add another Nest point to add 1,600 sq ft.

Eero Pro in the spec doesn’t write how much bandwidth each of the radio band, only mentioning 2×2 MIMO which technically is 867Mbps @ 5ghz and 300Mbps @ 2.4ghz. However, from the technical product Eero states that the speed at 2.4GHz is 240Mbps and at 5GHz is 600Mbps according to their measurements. And indeed the speed written on the spec is technical theoretical, not speed at the real world.

Hardware

Google Nest is powered by high performance Quad core 64-bit ARM processor 1.4 GHz with large capacity of 1 GB RAM; 4 GB Flash memory for heavy duty network processing tasks. Remember that what you need for high performance gaming computer, what you need is large capacity of RAM for responsive gaming. So does what your router needs for heavy duty processing tasks, the memory matters.

Eero Pro used to be powered by dual core processor, and the second generation of eero Pro the processor is upgraded to use quad core processor and memory RAM and Flash are still the same.

Both eero Pro and Google Nest have the same powerful processors and large memory. See more spec comparison details at the following table.
