EnGenius Wireless ax Access Point
Technology is developing very rapidly, and if all this time your business’s wifi network is still based on standard wireless N and plans to upgrade with wireless ac-based technology, you should consider jumping to the latest generation of wifi6 technology (802,11ax), 6th generation of wifi technology (aka wireless ax standard). Engenius releases two models of wireless ax access point products.
Engenius wireless ax access point
Like Ubiquiti, EnGenius manufactures a large number of featured products for your business needs in addition to home needs. And the two devices that we will discuss now are the two featured products of wireless access points based on Wifi6 technology (6th generation Wifi) or 802.11ax standard for your corporate network needs, i.e. Engenius ews357 and ews377 wireless ax access point.
These two new featured products released by Engenius are designed mainly for business wifi networks that can be installed using a mesh wifi network mode using a neutron controller switch.
We’ll see comparison engenius vs ubiquiti unifi access point later, and firstly we need to discus briefly what Engenius ax access point products are all about.
Engenius ews357 vs ews377
Both of these two products are based on wifi6 technology with different capacities, the speed of wifi in each radio band is twice that for ews377. For more details the differences ews357 vs ew377 can be explained in the following spec comparison table (table 1).
Pay attention to the product speed rows in each band, ews377 provides twice the speed of ews357 in each radio band.
Table 1 Engenius ews357 vs ews377
|Model||Engenius ew357||Engenius ews377|
|Standard||802.11ax dual band||802.ax dual band|
|2.4Ghz speed||574 Mbps||1,148 Mbps|
|5Ghz speed||1,200 Mbps||2,400 Mbps|
|Radio chain||2 x 2: 2||4 x 4: 4|
|Antennas||2 x 3 dBi @ 2.4 GHz ; 2 x 3 dBi @ 5 GHz||4 x 3 dBi @ 2.4 GHz ; 4 x 3 dBi @ 5 GHz|
|Dimension||160 x 160 x 33.2 mm||205 x 205 x 33.2 mm|
See that both models of ews357 and ews377 are based on wireless ax technology, and you may pair them with the latest wireless ax adapters for maximum data rate throughput, but so far there is still not available wireless USB adapter based on wifi6 technology but PCIe.

Although both of these products are designed for business, they can also be used stand alone. However, if for home needs you should just use the mesh wifi router that is on the market today, just call it Netgear Orbi, Linksys Velop or affordable Meshforce. See also meshforce m3 vs Linksys velop or Linksys velop vs Netgear Orbi. or you may try new model of Ubiquit Unifi uap-flexhd mesh access point.
There are two types of operation modes you can run with these two Engenius products:
- Managed mode: AP, Mesh
- Stand alone: AP, Mesh, WDS AP, WDS BR, WDS STA
The need for wifi networks for businesses with a large number of devices to cover a very broad business area is indeed not easy. However, engenius provides a wifi mesh solution using wireless AP products both from an ac-based and the latest with an ax-based wifi technology including these new engenius ew357 and ews377 wireless ax AP products.
By using Engenius mesh wi-fi solution and ezMaster management for network distribution you can make a wifi network that is scalable and easy to develop even up to thousand nodes no problem, just add or remove nodes easily as needed. And the good thing is that you can control network through single centralized interface with ezmaster. The same case with its competing products by Ubiquiti wireless ac access point series including the new one is Ubiquiti Unifi UAP-XG wave 2 ac access point that use Unifi controller software for centralized network management.
In brief we can summarize these two ews357 and ews377 wireless ax AP products as follows below, for the description in brackets is the ews377 version.
- Wifi6 indoor wireless ax simultaneous dual band access point based on 802.11ax technology
- Maximum theoretical speeds of 574 Mbps (1,148 Mbps) @ 2.4 GHz frequency) and 1,200 Mbps (2,400Mbps) @5 GHz frequency
- 3 dBi integrated 2×2 antenna (3 dBi integrated 4×4 antenna)
- 1 x 10/100/1000 (1 x 10/100/1000/2500) BASE-T, RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet Port
- Powered by Qualcomm® Quad-Core ARM Cortex A53s @ 1.0GHz (@ 2.0GHz) CPU
- SU-MIMO and MU-MIMO supports
- 8 SSIDs for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios
- AP or Mesh managed mode or stand alone deployment
With very promising technical strength for your business network and affordable prices, these two products can be options for upgrading your network. Given the ease of installation and management, this product will be a competitor to wireless ac access point products from Ubiquiti Unifi series or Netgear.

Now, compare this product with Engenius
EnGenius vs Ubiquiti Unifi Acces Point
When you compare Ubiquiti Unifi wave 2 ac access point (UAP-XG) with Engenius wireless ax access point you will see couples of main difference.
Take a look at the following spec comparison table for engenius v ubiquiti wireless access point. The comparable model is ews377 which is nearly the same speed with Ubiquiti.
Firstly, the wifi technology is different. Ubiquiti UAP-XG-US comes with wireless ac wave 2 (5th G wifi) tri-band technology while Engenius comes with latest dual band wifi6 (wireless ax) – the 6th G of wifi technology.
Secondly, the wifi aggregated speeds are different as you see in wifi speed rows. Engenius ews377 is comparable model with Unifi UAP-XG both @2.4Ghz and @5Ghz band. Ubiquiti is designed with built-in dedicated radio for security and Bluetooth radio for Bluetooth devices connection, but Engenius is not.
And the last but not the least is the Ethernet ports, Ubiquiti is available with 10Gbps LAN port for super fast gigabit bandwidth.
