EnGenius ESR580 Mesh wifi vs Amplifi HD
EnGenius introduces two models of wave 2 mesh wifi system – the Engenius esr530 dual band AC1300 mesh wifi system and Engenius esr580 tri-band mesh wifi system.
We’ll focus to the tri-band model EnGenius esr580 mesh wifi system and compare it with one of popular mesh wifi system in the market offered by Ubiquiti – the Amplifi HD, the first model in mesh wifi offered by Ubiquiti. The new model is Amplifi Alien wifi 6 mesh wifi system.
What this Esr580 does
The designs of the Esr530 and 580 series are the same, white flat and can be placed in the guest room or on your desk so that it becomes part of the decoration of your room.
EnGenius esr580 is a tri-band AC2200 wave 2 mesh wifi system with MU-MIMO feature delivering up to total 2200Mbps aggregated bandwidth, up to 400Mbps @2.4GHz band and 2 radio bands @5GHz with one of these radio bands is used as dedicated backhaul link. The Esr530 is a dual band mesh wifi, with wifi backhaul link shared with connected clients @5GHz band, no dedicated band as backhaul link.
Compare with Amplifi HD which is based on dual band AC1750 both the mesh router and the mesh point and they don’t support MU-MIMO.
Wired & wifi backhaul
If in your multistory building is too thick the walls between floors and many obstacles that cause signal attenuation between floors it is better to use the combination of wired and wifi backhaul link between your wifi mesh nodes. EnGenius esr580 allows you to make a combination of wired and wifi backhaul links between nodes up to 8 nodes.
You can also add one or more Engenius EMD1 mesh dot to add more coverage. This is the wall-plug model of mesh wifi range extender in addition of esr530 or esr580 series.
When you compare Esr580 with Amplifi HD you can find that you only need single Amplifi HD router plus two or more Amplifi HD points as the satellite, no Ethernet port available for the satellite so you only have wifi backhaul link between router and the satellites.
