Eero 6 Pro vs Orbi Rbk750 vs Velop Ax4200
Previously we discussed the comparison between eero-6 ax1800 with one of the mesh wifi products released by TP-link – the TP-link Deco x20 which is designed to work at the same network segment, namely ax1800.
This time we will discuss the eero-6 Pro series which is then compared with one of the mesh wifi products released by Netgear (Orbi rbk750) and Linksys (Velop ax4200).
Previously, we discussed the comparison between the two eero-6 series released by Amazon to the market at the end of 2020, namely the eero-6 and eero-6 Pro. The most apparent difference is that the eero-6 is designed with simultaneous dual band wifi-6 ax1800 technology, on the other hand the eero-6 Pro is designed with simultaneous tri-band wifi-6 ax4200 technology.
Like the previous eero Pro models based on wifi-5 technology, the eero-6 Pro is designed with 3-band wifi-6 technology and of course the total available bandwidth is much wider and much faster than the eero Pro based on wifi-5 technology.
Technically, the eero-6 Pro is designed with a total bandwidth of 4200Mbps (600Mbps @ 2.4GHz + 1200Mbps @ 5GHz-1 + 2400Mbps @ 5GHz-2). The same wifi-6 technology applied to Orbi ax4200 and Velop ax4200 we will compare here with eero-6 pro.
Unlike the eero-6 ax1800 which is designed with simultaneous dual bands, the eero-6 pro is designed with simultaneous tri-band where the need for connection between nodes (backhaul) uses all three bands both @ 2.4GHz and @ 5GHz radio bands and share with connected devices. This backhaul technique approach is technically similar to the Linksys Velop ax4200 which uses a tri-band dynamic backhaul method.
Unlike the eero-6 pro and Velop, the Orbi rbk750 series uses one of the radio bands @ 5GHz @2,400Mbps as dedicated backhaul, leaving two other radio bands for connected devices needs. So total bandwidth for connected devices is only 1,800Mbps (1,200Mbps @5GHz + 600Mbps @2.4GHz), the 2,400Mbps @5GHz is dedicated for backhaul.
The eero-6 Pro comes with two Gigabit Ethernet ports with auto sensing for WAN / LAN when connected to the modem. The other nodes work as mesh satellite with 2x Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. Indeed, there are not many Ethernet ports available for wired connection needs, since eero-6 Pro is focused on providing solid wifi connection to the clients which has been popular in providing solid wifi performance from the previous eero series.
When you require more wired connection, Orbi rbk750 series and Linksys Velop ax4200 offer you more LAN Ethernet ports for wired connection to desktops, game console, TV and etc.
All the three products are powered by Quad core CPU, however they come with different frequency clock and the memory capacity is also different. The eero-6 pro comes with larger Flash memory capacity. Flash memory is a solid-state chip that can still save stored data even if the router device is not powered or when the power is off. This flash memory is a kind of hard disk storage for storing configuration and firmware data for the mesh router or mesh satellite.
The larger Flash capacity the more complex program or firmware and system configuration can be stored to the memory.
