Deco P9 Powerline Mesh vs Amazon eero
TP-Link has released various models of Deco products ranging from the first model Deco M5 series which was arguably successful in the market with affordable price, then followed by other similar AC1200-based Deco series including Deco M4, Deco S4 AC1200 and also Deco M9 AC2200 based on a tri-band mesh wifi system. Besides that, Deco also introduces Deco P9 Hybrid Powerline mesh wifi system.

What this Deco P9 does
Deco P9 is one of mesh wifi models with simultaneous dual band AC1200 technology in general with technical speeds up to 867Mbps @ 5GHz and 300Mbps @ 2.4GHz, similar wifi like other mesh AC1200 in the market such as Orbi rbk10-100nas lower end model by Netgear, or Rock Space AC1200 mesh wifi system – a new comer with competing price and affordable Tenda Nova mw6.
Powerline Backhaul
The main difference between Deco P9 with other mesh wifi systems in general is Hybrid Powerline backhaul link between Deco units instead of wifi-based backhaul.
So far there is no mesh wifi system that adopts the use of Powerline as a backhaul link instead of wifi backhaul in general, moreover typically there is another optional wired Ethernet backhaul that P9 also provides this option in addition of powerline.
The advantage of this powerline backhaul is that you have the two radio bands for all connected devices and no need to share bandwidth for links between Deco units and the clients. This method is almost the same as wired Ethernet backhaul. But the main difference is that Powerline uses existing wired electrical line as a backhaul link.
But one thing that you need to notice is that all the Deco P9 units must be within the same electrical circuit break system, which is typically within the same building.
Deco P9 vs Amazon eero
Since Amazon acquired eero ownership, Amazon has redesigned eero to be compatible with smart home compatibility like Amazon Alexa and maybe in the future it will be more synchronous with all Amazon smart home products.

Cut cost
What is surprising is that Amazon actually cut the price of eero to be much cheaper and ready to compete in the mesh wifi AC1200 market. Amazon Eero is now sold at a price of around $ 200 and of course, with the excellent performance of Eero, will become the main attraction for customers to try this product. How does Deco P9 compare to Amazon eero?
Tri-band
Deco P9 actually provides a two band mesh wifi network. However, in general a two band mesh wifi network (such as Amazon eero) which does not fully provide both bands for the needs of connected devices because it has to share with the backhaul link needs for communication between nodes, but Deco P9 does. Deco P9 provides full two bands for connected clients’ needs, because backhaul links use Powerline. So it’s like a three band mesh wifi system where one band is used for dedicated backhaul link.
Now take a look at the following spec comparison table between Deco P9 and Amazon eero.
Table 1 Deco P9 vs Amazon eero
