Hardware performance

Both products are powered by the same Broadcom BCM4709A processor but with different memory capacity. Under the hood of Broadcom BCM4709A is high-performance 1 GHz ARM® Cortex™-A9 dual-core CPU with enhanced CPU memory subsystem architecture for increased system performance. Mostly high end wireless AC2400 and 3200 routers come with this types of communication processor including Asus AC3200 and Linksys EA9200.

D-link 890 comes with RAM memory twice as much as Nighthawk X6 and the same amount of flash memory which is 128MB. The more RAM the more tasks can be processed at the same time, thus faster processing time with less bottleneck.

Cloud Feature

D-link 890L is flavored with mydlink SharePort App for personal cloud storage which allows you connect the USB storage to the router and remotely stream and share movies, music, pictures and more from it. Netgear R8000 doesn’t flavor it with this types of cloud feature.

Other specs are similar including port interfaces either Ethernet with 4x Gigabit LAN ports, 1x Gigabit WAN port and 1x USB 3.0 high speed port for storage and 1x USB 2.0 port for printer. Both are DLNA compliant devices.

For advanced users you can optimize the performance of your router with open source firmware. Both routers can support DD-WRT open source firmware – a Linux-based firmware you can modify and customize to work in its best performance. Normal users do not do that, this D-link DIR-890L router has already been designed with graphical user interface to work well out of the box.
