Best Value Asus Rog Rapture GT6 vs Orbi

The Asus GT6 embodies the familiar form factor of a desktop tower computer, but in a miniaturized package. Its footprint is nearly identical to that of a typical desktop tower, yet it boasts a width that is roughly one-third the size and a height that is roughly one-fifth. This compact design makes the GT6 a space-saving solution for those seeking the power of a desktop tower- like router in a more compact form. How will this product compete with other mesh wifi-6 system such as Orbi or Deco?

Asus GT6 vs GT-AX11000 Pro

Asus has recently introduced a new addition to their ROG Rapture series – the Asus GTX11000 Pro Router. The main difference between the original asus gt-ax11000 and the pro version is that Asus gt-ax11000 pro series is equipped with multi-gig 10Gbps port than standard 2.5Gbps one. See also comparison between tp-link archer ax11000 and asus rog rapture gt-ax11000.

Although it is not a mesh version, it has Aimesh support, allowing you to create a seamless, whole-home network when connected to compatible Aimesh products, such as the Asus GT6. The GT6 is typically sold in a two-pack kit, while the premium Asus GTX11000 Pro is sold as a single unit and is more expensive. When choosing between the two series, it ultimately depends on your individual needs and preferences.

So what is the difference between those two series?

Asus Gt6 is a mesh wifi-6 model, while Asus gt-ax11000 is a wifi-6 router. Mesh WiFi systems provide a seamless, large area network by using multiple nodes that work together. Each node acts as a router, repeating and amplifying the signal to extend coverage, eliminating dead spots, and providing a more stable connection. These systems are ideal for larger homes or offices where traditional routers may struggle to provide adequate coverage.

Table 1 below represents specification comparison between asus rog rapture gt6 and gt-ax11000.

The Asus ROG Rapture series are both tri-band routers, offering bandwidth of up to 4804 Mbps on their 5GHz bands. However, the speed on the 2.4GHz band varies between the two models. The gt-ax11000 Pro utilizes all three bands for connecting devices, whereas the gt-ax6 is a mesh system and dedicates one 5GHz band as a dedicated backhaul, leaving only two bands for connected clients. To cover a larger area, the gt-ax11000 may require the use of a wireless range extender. On the other hand, adding an AiMesh device to the gt-ax11000 can create a whole home WiFi system.

Wired Connectivity

Both the Asus ROG Rapture series offer a 2.5Gbps WAN port, which is suitable for high-speed internet requirements. However, for those who require multi-gig internet speeds, the GT-AX11000 Pro comes with a 10Gbps WAN port that can be used to achieve such speeds. It is worth noting that there are fiber optic providers that support internet speeds of up to 10Gbps.

The 10Gbps port is designed to accommodate the next generation of DOCSIS 4.0 technology, which can support speeds of up to 10Gbps to customer premises. DOCSIS 4.0 is the latest version of the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification, which is a set of international telecommunications standards that define the transfer of data over cable TV systems. While there is no official release date for DOCSIS 4.0 yet, it is expected to be available in the near future and will provide significant improvements in speed and capacity

The 10Gbps WAN port is popular today that is equipped to premium products such as tp-link deco xe200 and the ultimate Archer axe300 vs asus axe16000 routers, and also the next generation of TP-Link wifi 7 products.

Processor

The asus gt-ax11000 Pro is a high-performance router that is powered by a more robust quad-core processor and boasts a larger memory capacity compared to the Asus GT6, which is equipped with a tri-core processor and a smaller memory capacity. The additional processing power and memory of the gt-ax11000 Pro enable it to handle heavier workloads and support more devices simultaneously, providing a faster and more stable internet experience. This makes it an excellent choice for households or offices with high-bandwidth activities such as online gaming, streaming, and video conferencing. Additionally, the larger memory capacity of the gt-ax11000 Pro allows for more efficient data processing and storage, reducing the likelihood of lag or buffering issues.

The good thing with these two series is the gaming feature applied to both models.

While the gt-ax11000 pro may be priced higher than a single unit of gt6, it’s important to note that the gt6 is typically sold in pairs, like many other mesh wifi systems. Therefore, the overall cost of a mesh wifi system consisting of two gt6 units may be comparable to that of a single gt-ax11000 pro, while still offering the benefits of mesh networking.

Asus GT6 vs Orbi Rbke963

Let’s take a look at how the asus gt6, a more budget-friendly option, stacks up against the popular and more expensive Netgear orbi rbke963 (3-pack kit). In fact, the two-pack orbi rbk962 costs nearly double the price of the asus gt6.

The orbi rbke963 is the first quad-band mesh WiFi system available on the market which the kit includes one Orbi router and two Orbi satellites, with each unit supporting WiFi 6 and a total of 12 simultaneous streams.

Orbi Rbk962 AXE11000

While both products are designed for high-performance mesh networking and come with advanced features, the orbi rbke963 is a more premium option and comes at a higher cost, almost double that of the asus gt6. This is likely due to the increased coverage, number of streams design, and advanced features that the orbi rbke963 offers.

Wifi design

While the total aggregated bandwidth between the asus gt6 and the Netgear Orbi rbke963 is the same as when comparing the asus gt6 and the more powerful asus gt-ax11000 Pro, it’s important to note that the Orbi is a quad-band system with the addition of a 6GHz band, unlike the asus gt6’s tri-band configuration. As a result, the distribution of bandwidth between the bands in the Orbi rbke963 may differ from that of the asus gt6.

The backhaul design for both products is almost the same as discussed above. and when it comes to use wired backhaul between nodes, you can use star backhaul topology instead of daisy chain. This is a better option knowing that the number of ethernet ports is more than two to allow the star backhaul topology is used.

Ethernet Ports

Orbi differentiates between orbi router and orbi satellite, and you cannot interchange them like asus nodes and most mesh wifi products in general, and the number of Ethernet port is also different. The orbi router is equipped with 10Gbps wan port instead of 2.5Gbps, but orbi satellites aren’t. This is like asus gt-ax11000 pro as discussed above to allow you subscribe multi-gig internet plan and ready for the future of docsis 4.0 cable lab technology.

The Orbi does not have a USB port like the Asus GT6, which allows you to connect a USB internet dongle. The Asus also supports dual WAN, which enables you to configure two internet connections for load balancing or failover failback.

Game features

Asus rog rapture series are designed for gamers in mind, by featuring them with asus triple game acceleration. This feature combines three technologies consists of dedicated gaming port for gaming traffic prioritization, adaptive QoS for gaming traffic prioritization and Game first V software to customize network settings for specific games and applications.

By using these technologies together, Asus Triple Game Acceleration can reduce latency and improve online gaming performance. On the other hand Orbi is not specifically designed for gaming experience, however Orbi provides high performance for any processing tasks.
