Asus XD4 Mini AX1800 vs Deco vs eero-6
Asus released Zenwifi Xd4, a new series of mesh wifi-6 system as an addition to the previous Asus Zenwifi series, Zenwifi xt8 and ct8.
What this product does
After previously releasing the Asus Zenwifi xt8 which works @ ax6600 network segment, today Asus released the new Zenwifi Xd4 series which works @ the ax1800 network segment. Of course this product is arguably a bit late to be released considering that many similar products have been around on the market, namely TP-link Deco x20 which has dominated the market in the ax1800 network segment. However, it is still good when compared to Eero, which recently released the eero-6 based on wifi-6 technology after releasing the eero mesh wifi product for a long time, the pioneer of mesh wifi in the market.
Zenwifi xt8 vs xd4
What is the main difference between zenwifi xd4 and the Xt8 series? It’s about the number of radio bands each of the series is designed. Xd4 is a dual band while xt8 is a tri-band model. Take a look at the following spec comparison table 1.
Besides, the number of Ethernet ports is also different. See in the ‘Ethernet ports’ row on the table 1 below.
Table 1 Zenwifi xd4 vs xt8
|Zenwifi xd4||Zenwifi xt8|
|Wifi technology||Ax1800 simultaneous dual band||Simultaneous tri-band ax6600|
|Wifi speeds||Up to 574Mbps @2.4GHz Up to 1,200Mbps @5GHz||Up to 574 Mbps @2.4GHz 2×2 up to 1201 Mbps @ 5GHZ-1 2×2 up to 4804 Mbps @ 5GHZ-2 4×4|
|Coverage||4,800 sq ft /3-pk||5,500 sq ft /3-pk|
|Backhaul link||Wifi and optional Ethernet backhaul||selectable which 5GHz radio band used as backhaul and optional wired backhaul|
|Ethernet ports||RJ45 for 1000 BaseT for WAN/LAN x 1, RJ45 for 1000 BaseT for LAN x 1||1x RJ45 2.5G BaseT for WAN 3x RJ45 Gigabits BaseT for LAN|
Asus Zenwifi xd4 ax1800 provides faster wifi speed than a mesh wifi router with wifi-5 ac1200 technology, which is the lowest level mesh wifi network from the previous wifi 5 technology, of course if it is connected to wifi-6 based devices.
If your connected devices at home are still based on wifi-5 (802.11ac), this Zenwifi xd4 technically provides the same speed as mesh ac1200 wifi such as Deco m5, Asus Lyra or Velop ac1200. However, if all your connected devices are wifi-6 based devices, this product provides much faster up to 1,800Mbps instead of 1200Mbps.
How good is the Asus xd4 compared to its competitors that are already on the market such as TP-link Deco x20 and also the new product released by the eero-6.

As references, take a look at the following spec comparison tables. Table 1 shows you spec comparison for Asus zenwifi xd4 vs Deco x20 while table 2 shows spec comparison for Zenwifi xd4 vs eero-6 mesh wifi systems.
Technically, these three products have the same spec, including simultaneous dual band wifi technology and the same wifi speeds, and support for latest wpa3 wifi security encryption. It’s just that the eero-6 is designed with the eero-6 router and the eero-6 extender. Meanwhile, the eero-6 extender is not equipped with an Ethernet port except 2-ethernet port for eero-6 mesh router.
One thing that distinguishes these three products is the Zigbee support for the eero-6. Zigbee is an alternative protocol to wifi which is widely used by smart home devices such as wireless sensors where this protocol offers very low power consumption such as Philips Hue, Samsung Smartthings, Amazon echo, TP-link Kasa sr20 smart home.
Asus zenwifi mini xd4 comes with free for life AiProtection network security protection powered by Trend Micro for all connected devices. On the other hand, the two competing products offer security protection plan you subscribe annually.
