Asus DSL-AC68U is the fastest DSL modem router that Asus offers in DSL modem technology. You have various models to meet your need including Asus DSL-N66U N900 wireless gateway, ideal for small home with multimedia with DSL services. Or you can select the small one DSL-N17U wireless N300 router.

TP-link also has various models of DSL modem router ranging from N150 to AC1900 technology. Archer D9 is one of the fastest DSL modem router offered by TP-link which is also based on the same wireless AC1900 as Asus DSL-AC68U. How they are compared?

Asus DSL-AC68U Vs Archer D9

Are there any differences between the two products? Let’s discuss them in the following paragraphs.

Wifi technology

Both Asus DSL-AC68U and Archer D9 are designed with the same wireless AC1900 technology, and theoretically both can deliver data transfer rate of up to 1900Mbps in both bands. The actual speeds can depend on the environment that influence the signal performance.

Both DSL modems come with beamforming technology to lock each of the wifi clients with strong signal wherever they are roaming within the wifi coverage. Asus introducing AiRadar technology which is basically derived from the same beamforming technology as Archer. Both modems are equipped with 3x high gain or high power external antennas broadcasting with Omni-directional signal pattern. Combination of beamforming technology and high power antennas ensures the extended area to cover with strong and solid wifi signal.

Most wireless modem gateway devices are built with a single processor to process both DSL and wifi tasks. Asus DSL-AC68U comes with two dedicated processors each to handle DSL signal processing tasks and the other processor to handle all the wireless signal processing tasks. Archer D9 only has one single processor to handle both wired and wireless signal processing tasks.

By dividing tasks between two different heavy duty tasks handled by dedicated processor would provide a better and faster processing speeds for tasks that require a heavy load when the router is very busy with heavy applications. No wonder that the price of AC68U is much more expensive than Archer D9, price difference can be around 90-100 bucks.

Asus DSL-AC68U ports

Ethernet ports

DSL-AC68U and like other high performance Asus wireless routers are equipped with 4x Gigabit LAN ports. However one of the port can be configured to function as either WAN or LAN port. You can configure the port as the WAN port when you don’t use the gateway to function the device as the wireless router connecting to such DOCSIS 3 Cable modem or other broadband modems. In normal way to function as the wireless DSL modem gateway, all the 4 gigabit ports can function as the LAN ports. This kind of configuration is what we call EWAN port is also applied to Archer D9 and other wireless DSL modems these days.

USB Port

Previous models of routers that come with USB port can only be used to share storage. Today, most USB port in a wireless router and wireless modem gateway can be used to share storage or printer. Asus DSL-N68U can share not just storage or printer but also for sharing 3G/4G modem. So you have some options for sharing internet, you can share DSL, Cable, 3G/4G or other broadband services. Unlike Asus, Archer D9 cannot be used to share 3G/4G modem.

In addition of those common USB usage, you can connect storage to the USB port and with the Asus AiCloud mobile apps you can sync, share and stream data from the USB storage to your mobile devices via the internet, it’s your personal cloud storage you can access anywhere you can connect to the internet. With Archer D9 you can configure FTP to access files remotely via internet.

The following table shows you main features of both DSL modem in a comparison table.
