Asus ax6000 vs Netgear ax6000 Wifi-6 Routers
Either Asus or Netgear or any other vendors do not only release one ax6000 wifi-6 router model, but more than one models with slight differences in specs and features.
The first time wifi 6 technology was introduced by several vendors by releasing wifi 6 router products, they are based on the ax6000 network segment including Netgear and Asus.
In the ax6000 network segment, Asus released the Asus rt-ax88u and rt-ax89u which are physically different as well as several different specs. Likewise, Netgear released two products in the ax6000 network segment you can find on netgear rax80 and netgear rax120 series.
Different streams Number
The main difference between the two different models on the same network segment is the number of data streams that can be sent by the router simultaneously to several compliant connected devices. Asus rt-ax88u and netgear rax80 support 8 streams, while Asus rt-ax89u and Netgear rax120 support 12-data streams.
With 8 data streams, the router supports 4×4 MU-MIMO on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio bands, respectively. While on 12 streams, the router supports 4×4 MU-MIMO on the 2.4Ghz radio band and 8 streams on the 5ghz radio band respectively. The more data stream the router can send concurrently the less latency the network.
For example, router with 8-data streams (8×8 MU-MIMO) can send 4 data streams concurrently up to four compliant 2×2 MU-MIMO connected devices such as PC with Asus ax3000 or Archer ax3000 adapters which support 2×2 MU-MIMO.
Note in table 1 below which provides a spec comparison between the two models asus ax6000 routers, asus rt-ax88u and Asus rt-ax89u. Note that the rt-ax88u is a simultaneous dual band ax6000 wifi 6 router with 8-streams, while rt-ax89u is ax6000 wifi 6 router with 12-data streams.
See that Asus rt-ax88u delivers wifi speeds up to 4,800Mbps 4×4 MU-MIMO @5Ghz, while rt-ax89u delivers Wifi speeds up to 4,800Mbps 8×8 MU-MIMO @5GHz.
Regarding port interfaces, ax89u is more powerful with an additional 10 Gbps Ethernet port, either you can use it as WAN or LAN port. Moreover there is a special SFP + port for fiber optic connections.

On the other hand, Netgear offers two models of ax6000 routers: Netgear rax80 and rax120. Actually there are still more routers at the range of ax5400 up to ax6600 including Netgear rax70 ax6600 and Netgear rax78 ax6200.
Take a look at the following spec comparison table that shows you comparison between Netgear rax80 and rax120. Again, the technical difference is the number of streams. And also the multi Gigabit 5Gbps Ethernet port is also a diference.

Asus ax6000 vs Netgear ax6000
Amongst the four products with the same ax6000 network segment, it is fair to compare two products with the same number of streams. Then the Asus rt-ax88u should be compared to the netgear rax80, while the Asus rt-ax89u should be compared to the netgear rax120.
Asus rt-ax88u vs Netgear rax80
Asus rt-ax88u and Netgear rax80 are simultaneous dual band ax6000 with 8 data streams, the same wifi speeds and 4×4 MU-MIMO. The hardware difference is the number of Ethernet ports for WAN and LAN interfaces.
The good thing with Asus is the inclusion of free lifetime Asus AiProtection network security protection powered by Trend Micro. With Netgear rax80 and rax120, you need to subscribe Netgear Armor for internet thread protection.

Netgear rax120 vs Asus rt-ax89u
Both Netgear rax120 and Asus rt-ax89u are simultaneous dual band ax6000 with 12-streams, 8×8 MU-MIMO @5GHz radio band.
Both 12 streams wifi 6 routers are equipped with lots numbers of interface ports that are not as common as other routers. Note that Asus ax89u that comes with 10-Gbps port and 8x Gigabit LAN port, while Netgear rax120 only comes with 5Gbps port and 4x Gigabit LAN. It is not enough with more Ethernet ports, Asus also equips this 12-streams router with an SFP + port for gigabit fiber optic connection.
