Linksys EA9500 AC5400 Vs Asus RT-AC5300

Like other networking vendors, Linksys offers various models of wireless AC router ranging from AC750 up to AC3200 based wifi technology and the ultimate one is the Linksys EA9500. This is the ultimate wireless three band router Linksys AC5400 introduced to the market to compete with other similar products from different vendor have been around for a while.

What this product does

Physically the appearance of this product is almost similar to its AC2600-based router – the Linksys EA8500 except that the number of antennas is different, total number of the external antennas is twice as much as EA8500. In addition this model is different than other predecessor’s models regarding the number of Ethernet LAN ports.


More Ports

Unlike high performance wireless AC routers in general which typically come with four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, this model comes with 8x Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and 1x Gigabit WAN port.

There are couple of models of wireless AC router come with more than four Ethernet LAN ports such as Netgear AC5300 R8500 wireless router which two ports can be combined to a single high speed 2Gbps Ethernet port for demanding high speed data rate transfer such as NAS or high speed backbone link. This is the three band model of high speed AC3150 routers with 4-Stream and NitroQAM technology such as Asus RT-AC88U wireless AC3100 router, or TP-link Archer C3150 router, or D-link DIR-885 AC3150 router. All the last three routers are high speed two band routers with four data streams.


Today, there are few models of AC5400 or AC5300 routers available in the market including new TP-link Archer C5400; or you may consider D-link 895 and Asus AC5300 routers. You will soon see the next generation of wireless AD technology (802.11AD standards) applied to the router. With the existing similar models available in the market today, let’s have Asus RT-AC5300 router to compare with this Linksys EA9500 AC5400 router. Asus RT-AC5300 has been around several months earlier than Linksys. Asus offers unique body design with 8 symmetrical external antennas like a crap.

Wifi technology

Both models offer the same wifi technology, the 4×4 data streams with Multi User MIMO (MU-MIMO) technology to boost the bandwidth up to 2165Mbps in each of 5GHz band. The Beamforming technology is also a much for high speed AC routers, ideal in connecting to the Beamforming compliant devices such as D-link DWA-192 AC1900 USB adapters which supports Beamforming technology.

Asus offers Smart Connect technology but Linksys doesn’t. With Smart Connect technology the router assigns each of the wifi devices the fastest band available automatically so that’s slow devices will not compete with the fast devices in the same band.


Both routers offer the same USB port configuration consist of 1x USB 3.0 port and 1x USB 2.0 port, and recent models come with twin USB 3.0 ports such as Netgear X4S. As discussed earlier, the number of Ethernet ports of up to 8 Gigabit LAN ports is more than enough for some people that typically requires not more than 4 ports for wired connection to game console, Blu-ray, Smart-TV and other Ethernet-based devices. Linksys takes advantage with twice number of Ethernet LAN ports than ordinary routers.

On the other hand, Asus RT-AC5300 router offers teaming network to combine the first two LAN ports as aggregation port to deliver a single high speed up to 2Gbps wired connection for huge data rate throughput such as for connecting to high speed NAS.
